Somchan a nine year old little boy broke both arms and one leg when falling seven meters from a mango tree while picking fruits for his family. He is the first boy of 3 children of a poor Khamou family of Ban Houi Keng village of La district, Oudomxay province. Somchan underwent two surgeries at Oudomxay provincial hospital with the support of LRF.

Lina, a two year old little girl was born with a congenital heart disease, she is the only child of Yordsouly and Hommala, a Khamou poor family of Ban Houi On of Namor district, Oudomxay province. The little girl was diagnosed with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). Given the seriousness of her condition, she could not be treated at Oudomxay provincial hospital. We referred her to Mahosot Hospital (Cardiology Unit) in Vientiane Capital where heart surgery was performed by a team of French pediatric cardiologist surgeons. The treatment required several trips to the capital and a stay of several weeks in the hospital. All expenses were covered by LRF.

The outcome was excellent for both children who can now enjoy a normal life with friends and family, particularly for Somchan who could rapidly return to school.
