Established in 1995 by the Ministry of Health in cooperation with the Dark & Light Blind Care Foundation in Holland, the Home of Light is only partially funded by the Lao PDR government and minimally funded by the Dark & Light Foundation. It houses year-round approximately 50 blind students with ages ranging from 4 to 16 years old. The Lao Rehabilitation Foundation provides funds for food and clothing on a regular basis and is presently seeking the donation of musical instruments for the children.

Committed to providing the best possible environment for the children, the Lao Rehabilitation Foundation, Inc. has developed plans to upgrade and expend the present facility to provide a new indoor kitchen, indoor laundry, a new dinning room, new toilets and showers. The new facility will allow the staff and children to prepare food by cooking on gas stoves indoor rather than outside on wood fire as presently done. State of the art appliances, central water heating system, commercial grade washers and driers will also greatly improve standards of living at the school.
The new building will also provide the necessary space to develop an educational program that will include art, music and therapeutic massage.

These are the precious children who will benefit from an educational music program at the Home of Light. Since they are unable to see, hearing and sound become the vital link these children have to the world. They respond very positively to music; it ignites their creativity, intellect, and hope.
