The June eye care mission for the Mekong Riverside Project, the third of the year, saw our team traveling to Pagbeng, Oudomxay Province to deliver medical equipment for Pakbeng District Hospital and Kokkkah Health Center. After handing over the equipment, we intended to visit villages along the Mekong River to provide refraction services and prescription glasses to the local population. However, the early onset of the rainy season brought unfavorable weather conditions that made travel by speedboat difficult and potentially unsafe, leading us to postpone that part of the mission until after the monsoon to ensure the safety and effectiveness of our services.
While in Pakbeng, we observed the progress of the construction site for a potential basic eye care facility, which will offer essential services to the local population. Shortly thereafter, we returned to Vientiane Capital to support one of our closest collaborators, an ophthalmic nurse, who was scheduled for ACL surgery at Mittaphab Hospital.
