A Lao team from Oudomxay provincial hospital worked together with Thai experts to treat patients with eyelid diseases, lacrimal duct obstruction, and eyelid cysts. Services were free of charge for all patients. Examination and surgery was performed by Thai specialists and a Lao ophthalmologist of the eye unit. Treatment was provided with the best medicine available and proper operating procedures. A total of 23 patients were examined. Surgery was performed on 12 cases which included 3 severe ectropions, 4 ptosis / blephalochamosis, 2 eyelid dermoid cysts, 2 lacrimals duct obstraction and 1 scar lateral cantus. This mission was important for the treatment and prevention of blindness in Laos and particularly for those living in poverty.
