February 2011

Namor district is one of the poorest districts of Oudomxay province, bordering LuangNamtha province and China. Vientiane Health Department Computer Classroom

Given the success of the first computer classroom installed at the Department of Health in 2007, LRF agreed to develop a new computer classroom on the opposite side of Vientiane City (Thatluang) where the medical staff can further develop their computer and language skills. Lao doctor learns in the US

Dr. Phetsamone Indara is one of the 18 ophthalmologists of Laos, and one of two ophthalmologists serving the rugged remote northern provinces of Laos. February 2010

In cooperation with the Fred Hollows Foundation and Bokeo Provincial Hospital, the Lao Rehabilitation Foundation organized and coordinated a plastic surgery and cataract mission in Bokeo Province in the northern part of Laos. We targeted cleft lip/cleft palate, burns and traumatic reconstruction for the surgeries. For the eyes, we performed cataract surgeries where necessary, and gave reading glasses to the elderly and handicapped persons. Over 1,000 people were served and treated during this mission. Background Houixang village located in Namor District in Oudomxay province is home to three distinct ethnic groups, Hmong, Khamou and Lao Houi people, each having their own identity, culture, traditions, costumes and languages. In cooperation with Oudomxay Hospital, Lao Rehabilitation Foundation has agreed to provide support for health care in remote areas of Oudomxay Province. September 2010

Rural communities get free health care checks, treatment and medicine. In September 2010, a team of Lao doctors organized and financed by LRF visited the Bounneua and Bountai districts of Phongsaly province in Northern Laos. The mobile medical team offered free eye, ear nose and throat, dental, and pediatric care and echography scanning was provided for expectant mothers. Maknao Health Care Center

In Late 2004, the Lao Rehabilitation Foundation proposed plans for the construction of a new Health Care Center in the village of Maknao where it acquired land for that purpose in July 2004.
