Opened in January 2020 with the support of LRF that included equipment and training, Houn Eye Care Clinic serves the needs of a population of over 80,000 people. Houn, the second largest district of Oudomxay province includes 94 villages. The ethnic population is 70% Khamou, 20% Lao Loum and 10% Hmong. Living of subsistance farming, the average incone per capita is less that $1.00 per day. The clinic offers basic eyecare including refraction and is set up to provide general optometry care. Patients with complicated issues are referred to the Provincial Hospital located at a 2.5 hour drive from Houn.
