September 2013 – Oculoplastic Surgery

With 17 team members that included 4 surgeons from Bumrungrad, Metapachrak and Jaroenkrungcharak Hospitals, 19 patients underwent surgery in September 2013 for severe eyelids diseases, reconstruction, duct obstructions, glaucoma and other eye injuries. October 2013

LRF’s team of 14 Lao health care providers from Oudomxay Hospital provided health care in the remote village of Chom-Ong, Xay District, Oudomxay province, Laos in October 2013. The team included an ophthalmologist, two dentists, a pediatrician, a gynecologist and 5 nurses. We treated 330 patients and provided health and dental check to 216 children at the local elementary school. Some medical equipment, supplies and medicine were donated to the local health center. June 2013 ENT Surgery

LRF funded and organized the surgical mission from June 11-19th, 2013. Winchester Hospital (Boston) and Queen of the Valley Hospital (Napa) donated medical supplies. Ethicon donated medical sutures. America-Cares donated the anesthetics. A glidescope videolaryngoscope by Verathon Medical was on loan for use on this mission. Water Well Drilling Project

Aiming at improving the rural people’s living conditions in Laos, Lao Rehabilitation Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Health, National Center for Environment and Water Supply on February 1, 2013 to provide support for water projects in Oudomxay, Khammuan, Savannakhet and Vientiane province for five years, from 2013 to 2017. Mokkokang Water Project

    Established in 2006, MokkoKang village is located at 25 km outside of Pakbeng, in Pakbeng ditrict in Oudomxay province. The village is home to 717 people (F391) mostly of Khamou ethnicity. Until now, water was only available at a small stream nearby the village and was considered unsafe. A sustainable source of clean water was identified at 3km of the village. February 2012 ENT/Plastic Surgery

The primary focus of this mission was to collaborate with the Lao physicians and surgeons to provide experience with complex operations so that they can continue the work after the team has left. Over seven days we operated on 30 patients. We trained Lao surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses. All operations were successful and there were no complications.
